- Expectation of Services OVER women
The origins of ManAlive
Hamish Sinclair is an educational consultant and community organizer. As the founder of ManAlive, he facilitated ManAlive classes for over 35 years. He continues to train interventionists, educators, social workers and law enforcement professionals in ManAlive Intervention Techniques. Hamish lectures throughout the country on male-role violence and consults with organizations on the development of batterer intervention and violence prevention programs.
A history of VIP ManAlive
ManAlive started in the 1985 in San Francisco by Hamish Sinclair, in response to men wanting to know why they were losing their families. The recognition that violent, abusive, and controlling behavior pushes people away, created a program that grew by providing men explanations as to why they do violence. With that awareness, men started looking for new skills that did not use competitive, controlling and coercive behaviors, rather they learned cooperative inter-personal skills. The program has expanded across the country and internationally. The original ManAlive philosophy is a peer re- education process of "each one teach one, how to teach one". Hamish has trained numerous former batterers that have gone on to build their own communities of non-violence. Thus, Pete Giannini started the Grass Valley, CA ManAlive program in 1994. Subsequently VIP-ManAIive was formed in 2004 by a group of facilitators from Pete's program, continuing the non-violence community building process Hamish began in the 1980’s.
